Following is a copy of the full version of the column featured in The Area News complete with the “Laughter is the best medicine” card from Doreen Virtue’s Archangel Raphael Healing Oracle Cards.
THIS week Barbara asked:
“I’m sick and tired of the same old, same old. My life is predictable and there’s not much excitement. Can the cards shed some light on that?”
This theme is a recurring one because so many feel the same way. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that what is missing is the F-word. But before you go jumping to conclusions (or writing to the editor), I’m referring to FUN!
Many of us have forgotten what it feels like to have fun. We see glimpses of it, but on a day-to-day basis those fun-filled moments are few and far between. Often we get so busy that we don’t ever stop to consider what it is that makes our heart sing.
So don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place for a healthy injection of fun as the card “Laughter Is the Best Medicine” from Doreen Virtue’s Archangel Raphael deck has appeared.
The accompanying guidebook offers some good advice, “…it may be difficult for you to smile right now, but there’s always a big release after a good laugh.” I’ve mentioned in a previous column about having a fun makeover but what could that actually entail?
Tips on how to go from boring to blissful:
- Can you see areas of your life where you can detach from the drama? This will help you to lighten up.
- Routines make us feel safe and secure yet over time they can also diminish our soul’s spark. Spontaneity and fun go hand in hand so less planning and more going with the flow.
- Reconnect with your inner child. Children are silliness experts – we could do with some of their cheerfulness and amusing behaviours.
It might help to know that Esther and Jerry Hicks, through the Teachings of Abraham, encourage us all to live with this mantra in mind: “The basis of your life: Absolute freedom. The purpose of your life: Joy. The result of your life: Expansion.”
To jazz up ordinary moments, putting on a CD or iPod and setting to random can do the trick. Let’s just say I now go about my housework with an extra spring (and swing!) in my step. The kids think I’ve gone a bit crazy in these moments – but isn’t that the point – there are no rules when it comes to having fun. Think that scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise’s character embraces freedom and fun by dancing to “Old Time Rock and Roll” dressed in nothing but socks, undies and a shirt.
Other times, just by wearing my Sunstone crystal I feel I have a sunnier disposition. Time for you to discover what gives you the most joy and pursue it with pure abandon.
Go ahead, have a good chuckle, chortle or guffaw…and don’t give a rats about what others think!

A little extra help from above…
Attached to this week’s card is a prayer to Archangel Raphael to help give us a daily dose of fun:
“Dear Archangel Raphael, thank you for reminding me to detach and find the humour and irony within every human drama.”
