Following is the full version of the column featured in The Area News complete with the “Opening to Love” card from Denise Linn’s Gateway Oracle Cards.
THIS week Maggie asks:
“I’ve been divorced for a while and it’s difficult to meet new people. How can I find a partner to share my life with?”
Love…there have been songs and sonnets written about it, but how do we truly open our heart?
Most people don’t realise that at their core – their essence – is love. So when we experience love with another, it’s as though you have plugged into that energy. It helps you to recall who you really are. And that’s why it feels so darn good!
Relationship guru and best-selling author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, John Gray, gets to the heart of the issue. “Many times, people are looking for their partner and they say they can’t find them. Well, if your soul mate is not knocking on your door, it’s because you’re not ready. If you want to find someone who can fully love you and know you, you have to know and love yourself.”
Denise Linn’s card “Opening to Love” reiterates this truth so now you have a very clear task at hand. You might feel that you’ve already been opening your heart to love and that you’ve had plenty of time on your own, but now it’s about going deeper.
Most of us find it easy to love the people around us, but it’s the loving ourselves part that can trip us up. Could it be that we can’t see past the concept as being airy-fairy or that we don’t really know what it entails? Regardless of the reason it doesn’t make it any less important.
Tips on how to become acquainted with loving yourself before becoming acquainted with another:
- If you’re feeling a lack of confidence, try the “fake it until you make it” approach. Even Wikihow says that emotions can take a bit of time to catch up with behaviours.
- Surrender timing and expectations. These are the biggest blocks because it places your focus on what’s not happening, rather than being positive about what is.
- Following Your Bliss is another great strategy. In the very least, you’ll be having fun until your soul mate knocks at your door.
I’m not trying to downplay that having a companion is important to you, but if you can believe that you are perfect, whole and complete just as you are, then you are on the fast track to relationship bliss. Make this your new attitude and your biggest problem may then be having so many possible partners to choose from that you’ll be beating them back with a stick.
This topic is a biggie, so I’ll be exploring it further next week.

A little extra information…
The following material from the guidebook about the “Opening to Love” card, may offer some additional insight.
Card Meaning: Love is on its way. The more you open to love, the more its sweet nectar can surge through your soul. From the love of others, to the love of self, to love from the Creator, love flows to and through you. You are indeed a sacred vessel for love to flow through.
The Universe wants you to know: There is nothing you need to do to deserve love. It is already waiting for you. It’s like the sun…there for everyone. It’s simply a matter of stepping out to bask in that warm and glowing light. Who you are is enough. This is true. In matters of romance, love is flowing, wounds are healing, and hearts are opening. If only you could see yourself as those in spirit see you, you would know how very loved you truly are.
Questions to ask yourself: What is my true pathway to love? How can I open myself to love even more? What is blocking me from welcoming love?
Affirmation: “My heart is open.”
