If anyone had told me that one day I would be a co-host on a podcast, I probably would’ve responded with a giant guffaw (aka belly laugh) then followed up with a snort! Ever since podcasts were created in 2004 (for those of you playing at home), it felt like a pipe dream. I knew one day I’d find a way to publish my books, but a podcast just seemed like, well, it was in a whole other league…dimension even!
I’ve been blessed (and I’ve worked bloody hard) to achieve some big professional milestones in my life. Most notably:
- Winning the “Daily Telegraph Customer Service Award” at the NSW Awards for Excellence in Tourism for my parents’ business, JD’s Jam Factory in 2000;
- Being awarded the Australian Government’s Centenary Medal in 2003
- Being a finalist in the Young Australian of the Years Awards for NSW for five consecutive years;
- Having my own weekly column “Ask Sharon” for The Area News in 2015
- Becoming an international best-selling author in 2016 when 365 Moments of Grace, which features my writing, went to #1 in seven categories on Amazon in the U.S. and Canada
- …and as I mentioned publishing my own book, Messages from the Heart: 39 Answers to Your Life Questions.
But co-hosting a podcast is right up there!
An important message:
Even though celebrating our successes is an important aspect of life, the reality is we don’t need these external achievements to be happy and at peace. That is something you can only find within. It’s one of life’s great paradoxes. And it’s taken me most of my life to figure that one out. The biggest message I want to convey to anyone who is reading this is that dreams do come true…but it’s up to you to make them happen. When I let a group of friends know that I was launching a podcast, one of them said that they wished they had the ‘kahunas’ (she used a different word), to do something like this. I responded with, “You do! We all do!” Yes, there’s fear of ridicule and judgement, but ultimately it comes down to what sort of life you want to live. If it’s a life of ‘no regrets’ then the answer is clear….crystal clear. For me, it has been a soul calling to do something like this and I was fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with my friend of 24 years, Kris Evans.
My co-host Kris Evans is:
A wife and mum to two gorgeous girls, Anna 7 and Kate 4. In 2015, Kris founded Mummy Jobs Australia to deliver services and products to support mums in gaining career confidence and advancement, regardless of whether they were returning to work for the first time or transitioning between jobs. Kris runs an incredible Facebook support group for mums, and partners with employers Australia-wide who want to actively be a part of the changing landscape and culture for women in the workplace.
You can see why I feel so blessed to be partnering with Kris on this exciting project.
Our podcast is about:
All things motherhood–the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between! Many of our conversations are about juggling motherhood with work and how there has to be a better and easier way. Both Kris and I are avid advocates for self-help and self-improvement, so we bring that knowledge into our motherhood journeys and we walk our talk by sharing those messages. The goal of each episode is to:
- provide insights
- easy-to-do practices
- new ways of thinking, and
- practical tools to help mothers navigate the biggest role of all…motherhood.
What can you expect each month?
In this podcast series, Kris and I will be taking on the everyday problems facing mums and presenting them with simple solutions. Our first two podcasts include:
- Taking care of sick kids
- Mental Overload: How to lighten it
Our upcoming podcasts will cover the very important topics of:
- Being true to yourself: why it’s important and how to do it no matter what
- Self-care for mothers
- Aspirations: taking them from pipe dreams to priorities
- The daily grind: from struggle to success
And you can tune in every month on iTunes. Spotify is coming soon!
We’re just two real mums talking about real issues in an attempt to make the ordinary extraordinary!
So if you like (or love!) what you hear, please like, share, rate and tell your friends about it.
Positive praise for podcast
While the response so far to the podcast has been overwhelmingly positive, the goal is to reach a wider audience, so that more mums can feel understood and empowered as they experience the rewarding, yet relentless journey of motherhood.
As one mum said after hearing the first few episodes:
“First time listener and now a fan! This podcast is like having an informative but casual chat with friends. Kris and Shaz give voice to day in day out mum life.”
Another mum labelled it as:
“Entertaining, authentic and honest.”
While one listener remarked,
“Loved the insights. Practical advice with humour that is essential listening by anyone with kids! Keep it up!”
